Prior to a couple years ago I didn’t listen to any podcasts. I can’t recall what got me listening to podcasts but now I listen daily. I listen when I am walking the dogs, exercising and even when driving the car. I subscribe to Apple Music but I rarely listen to music.

At first, I tried most all podcasting app’s available for iPhone and settled on the very well designed app, Overcast by Marco Arment. It served me well but was lacking in the watch features, I so wanted to change the volume from my watch and not have to take out my iPhone. The lack of this feature was not Marco’s fault. Apple doesn’t give developers access to all the api’s available to Apple. This prevents developers from adding and copying features you may find in Apple apps. Eventually, Marco got access to further his development of Overcast but I had moved on. Although, I do keep subscribing to Overcast to help fund future development of Overcast.

I started using the Apple Podcast beta when the iOS 13 beta was released and it just grew on me. Apple’s podcasting app kept improving as the new beta’s were released and it continued to get better. I prefer to use Apple apps when they suite me and now Podcast seemed to do just that.

I was able to create a smart playlist that plays the newest podcast when finishing another podcast and that was important to me. I don’t care to open the Podcast app and manually pick the newest podcast. Since, I subscribe to podcasts I want to hear I don’t have to worry about listening to something I don’t want to hear.

I now use Apple Podcast on my iPads, Mac, watch and iPhone. This pleases me.
